Agenda Item: VII.F.

Consider/Approve Budget Amendment to the General Purpose School Fund

Background Information:

The South Fulton Middle/High School Librarian, Ms. Brandi Cantrell, wrote and was awarded a grant to conduct a summer work program for youth. The work program period begins May 25, 2010 and will continue through June 25, 2010. The students will work 35 hours per week and will be supervised by Ms. Cantrell. Among other things, peer tutors (students) will be working primarily in the library and within the school.  Much of the program will be spent by students working with (and training on) the Jostens yearbook program.  The master tutor (teacher/supervisor) will teach students how to use the program as well as work with them during the layout process of the book.  Students will work on public relations, sales, and organization.  Students will also work with various research sites to help prepare them for college. A complete description of the scope of the grant is attached. All salaries, wages, and benefits will be paid by the grant and no local funds will be involved. The respective budget amendment for the grant is also attached.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the summer work program grant and the respective budget amendment as outlined above.
